Mayo Chiki! 04 – Stop Staring At Me
「あんまりジロジロみるな・・・」 (Amari Jirojiro Miru na…)
“Stop Staring So Much…”
Lately, the only times I have been able to watch anime is after midnight due to the situation I’m in right now. I can only really use my younger brother’s laptop around this time since he’s on it during the day. Because of this, I find my opinions of an episode negatively affected sometimes. So initially, I thought this episode was lacking.
Focus of the Episode
I actually don’t even remember much of what this episode was about. This certainly wasn’t one of the better episodes, partly because the majority of it took place in Jirou’s house. I think it’s more that I didn’t understand the point of it. So we’re left with a bunch of foolish blunders and tacked on comedy for the majority of the episode until it really starts to go somewhere. Subaru turns up at Jirou’s house all in nyan-form because she was kicked out of the manor. Jirou now becomes her ojou-sama for the day and they get into all sorts of shenanigans in the bathroom and with Kureha. That is until, Kanade shows up in a maid outfit, offering Jirou to become her ojou-sama as well and creates even more problems.
It All Boiled Down To This
Things didn’t start getting serious until Jirou collapsed due to a cold. With Kureha all like: “OMGYOUCANTDIEASWELL!!”, at first I was thinking why the heck is she freaking out over a cold, but then I figured that someone must’ve died…like their father. By the way, get this: Mother has pink hair, father has blue hair, daughter has pink hair, son has blue hair. How the fuck does that work out? Answer: Anime.
Anyway, that whole scary moment was quickly covered up by tacking on some comedy bu having Subaru give Jirou some crazy-ass medicine. Later on we find out that Subaru was kicked out because of some stupid reason like her and her father having an argument. Her father is camping out somewhere and Kanade basically needs Jirou to get Subaru to apologize to her father. Um, dude has a frickin’ cold and she goes and brings him out like this. Honestly.
The problem about this show is that it’s hard to care for the drama that it dishes out, usually because it’s washed over with comedy. A lot of romantic comedy anime fall victim to this. So with the revelation that Jirou’s mom died, we find out that one Subaru’s parents died as well and when Jirou collapsed she was scared for his life as well, because Jirou is a very dear friend to him, which is nice. This is totally an interesting relationship. You know what else is an interesting relationship? Jirou and Kanade. The bitch gave her first kiss to him at the end of the episode. I’m wondering what’s on this chick’s mind.
