Star Driver 17 – Vanishing Age
「バニシングエージ」 (Banishingu Eeji)
I’m not in the best of moods today. Whether or not that’ll reflect in my writing, we’ll see. However, I’m not gonna go too much into this episode even though it was filled to the brim with FABULOUS. So, Head is a fucking troll. Not only did he play a coup d’etat card, but he made his own Vanishing Age group the only people that really matter as well as destroying the cybercasket.
The first half of the episode serves as that madatory beach/volleyball session. While it’s not all that important, it does introduce two new characters to the fray. They’re both part of the Kiraboshi. The blonde one is Madoka Kei, who’s voiced by Yukana. She reminds me of a very eccentric version of Kanako. The other one is Kou Atari. If you’ve seen the episode and wondered why she sounds like a guy, well I can tell you that Kou is voiced by none other than Saiga Mitsuki. Anyway, these two challenge Wako and her friend (I never remember that bitch’s name) to a volleyball match to see which two girls will be oil massaged by Takuto.
Let’s not forget that in the very start of the episode, Head is seen visiting someone who appears to be in a coma. While I’m guessing this person is a male, the person’s gender does seem a bit ambiguous. I think he might either be (one of) the previous driver(s) of Samekh, due to him being in a coma now for not having enough libido, OR he could be a relative of Keito, based on the fact that they have the same coloured hair and everyone’s hair in this show is different for some reason…
So as for this coup card that Head played, basically, he destroyed the cybercaskets saying that they won’t be needing them any more. It is explained that in the third phase, only those who possess real marks can apprivoise Cybodies now. Everybody in the Vanishing Age possess a real mark, with the addition of Takashi/Banker (which came to no surprise since it was heavily hinted at early in the series) and those two new characters Madoka/Window Star and Kou/Needle Star. All of those three were from the Otogi Bank group but now Head has taken them to join the Vanishing Age. It’s funny how Head is able to keep his alpha game on even after losing to Takuto last time after boasting that he has never been defeated. In any case, it was also interesting to see how no one could do anything about it. I’m guessing that everyone’s gonna turn or something. Especially Kanako.
So yeah! We get to hear Keito sing her East Maiden hymn which is called Akiiro no Aria. It wasn’t so much used as the Zero Time theme today, and I’m not even sure if this is the l’apprivoise version or not. In any case, FABULOUS was due. Window Star requests that she fights Takuto. Sure, why not?
She’s become one with her Cybody now. Apparently anyone who becomes one with their Cybody is a Ginga Bishounen. A female calling herself a bishounen? NOT SURE IF WANT. In any case, her Cybody is Hegent. This Cybody was the one Keito tried to make Tiger pilot in Episode 4. So anyway they do battle, and Takuto almost wins, but he wants to do so without harming the enemy. Then…Takuto starts to kinda lose. BUT’S IT’S FINE. WE CAN JUST USE THE KING’S PILLAR AND EVERYTHING WILL BE OKA–
The battle was a great one. But enough of that. The episode ends on the note that repairing Head’s Reshbal would be a 50/50 chance on his life. Head’s all like: “PSH, 50/50?! COME AT ME, BRO.”
